Lucan School of Music General Terms and Conditions (August 2026)

Lucan School of Music is the trading name of Roselawn Music Administration Limited Registered in Dublin, Ireland.  Registration No: 769370

The Lucan School of Music is a music school, teaching music performance and theory classes on an individual and group basis.

The school aims to provide a safe environment in which young people can develop performance ability and knowledge of music theory through the teaching and playing of music.

Rules of attendance

  1. The Lucan School of Music does not accept certain types of behaviour, e.g. bullying, violence, sarcasm, name-calling, favouritism, abusive language or gestures, negative criticism of values, beliefs and opinions, and negative highlighting of physical, social cultural or emotional differences, and will intervene to ensure the fair and equitable treatment of all.
  2. Students and parents should respect the premises and leave the school clean and in good condition.
  3. Good behaviour and respect for teachers is essential. Respect for other students is also important, as disruptive behaviour can prevent others from learning.
  4. The Lucan School of Music reserves the right to refuse attendance if a student or parent is repeatedly disruptive to others, causes damage, or puts the safety of others at risk. A written warning will be issued before any termination of enrolment. Families may appeal this decision by submitting a formal request to the school office within 14 days of notification.
  5. In the case of players under 18 years old, parents or guardians shall be notified and consulted in an attempt to rectify the situation before any disciplinary action is taken. Subsequent to this if there is no improvement in behaviour, the school shall have the right to impose an appropriate penalty.
  6. Families in attendance should follow our COVID policies which will react to the current guidelines and requirements of CBS.

Paying Term fees

There are two terms each year and an invoice will be sent for Term 1 in August, and Term 2 in January.

An invoice will be generated each term via Stripe and can be paid by Debit / Credit Card online.

Monthly installment options are available when paying online; these payments will be taken from the designated card each month.

Late payments could result in a student losing a place with their preferred teacher and being placed on a waiting list for a time slot with them.  Any special circumstances should be discussed with office staff in advance.

The Lucan School of Music DOES NOT ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS AT THE SCHOOL due to serious SECURITY CONCERNS.  Those that wish to avoid card payments can use cash to purchase a postal order or bank draft made to Roselawn Music Administration Limited T/A Lucan School of Music for their total and present this at the school.

Missed Classes

  1. If a student misses a class they are not entitled to a refund for that class as the teacher’s time is booked for that time for the whole term, and the teacher will be at the school for the designated time of the class whether the student attends or not. This is to protect the teacher’s livelihood.  If you are unable to attend a lesson an online lesson will be an option on the same day and time of your class. Teachers will need at least 24 hours notice for online lessons.  We cannot offer any re-scheduled classes for those that students miss due to a full schedule.
  2. If you are booked in for between 1 to 4 weeks trial, these classes run consecutively and are non-refundable.
  3. Long term absences due to injury / serious illness:  If a student cannot complete the term due to a serious injury / illness, we will adjust fees or refund accordingly.  A doctor’s cert may be required.
  4. Long-haul travel:  We cannot make any concessions for travel.  Students should consider whether they wish to attend for a term if they will miss a significant number of weeks due to travel as we cannot refund classes for such absences.
  5. Ceasing Classes:  If a student ceases classes mid-term, a notice period of 2 weeks will be required.  Refunds will be issued for remaining classes after this period.  This will ensure we have time to fill the time and that the teacher is not at a loss of earnings.
  6. The Lucan School of Music reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher when necessary. Notice of this will be given where possible.
  7. Should the school need to close for any reason (e.g. adverse weather conditions) the school may open during holidays at their discretion, giving as much notice as possible.
  8. If a teacher misses a class, the following options may be offered:
      • The class will be re-scheduled pending the student’s availability,
      • An online alternative may be offered
      • An extra week may be added to the current term
      • The cost of the class will be deducted from the price of the following term.

This will depend on each individual teacher and the availability of the student as well as the school’s calendar. The Lucan School of Music will strive to ensure that no enrolled student pays for any lesson that they do not receive and if none of the above solutions apply a refund will be given.

Communication

Parents should be aware of school policies and procedures, especially the school’s Child Protection policy

Parents and students are welcome to discuss progress or provide feedback to teachers and / or the school office.  Any issues / concerns that arise must be communicated to the office of the Lucan School of Music at once to give us a chance to resolve the situation. This must be done at the time of the incident / event in question and not at the end of the term, especially if a refund is requested. Refunds will only be issued in extreme circumstances after every effort has been made to resolve the situation and a suitable alternative has not been found.

Interrupting classes:

We ask that parents and students show respect for other student’s time.

  1. Parents should talk to teachers at the beginning of their child’s class if they have concerns, rather than at the end of their lesson which will delay the start of the next student’s class and cause delays for the teacher’s other students over the rest of the day.
  2. We ask that office queries be directed to 01 6217852 or office@lucanschoolofmusic.ie rather than class time be taken up with administration queries.

COVID-19 SPECIAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Coláiste Phádraig will allow the Lucan School of Music to continue to use the school premises under the following conditions:

  1. At all times we will follow government advice from the Department of Heritage, Culture and the Gaeltacht on whether we can teach at our premises based on restrictions at the time. Online classes will be offered as an alternative with a reduction of 10% on fees as outlined below.
  2. Should there be HSE intervention at Coláiste Phádraig / Lucan School of Music, we will not be permitted access to the premises.  In this scenario, we will return to online learning.
  3. Lucan School of Music will follow advice on social distancing / sanitizing as mandated by the HSE at any given time.

Contingency Plan for COVID-19 Closure

  1. Students signing up should be aware that in the event of a COVID-19 closure, we will go straight to online learning and cannot offer contingency dates for covid closures. Refunds will be given to those students who cannot learn online.
  2. Should it prove necessary to switch to online learning in Term 1, a financial rebate of 10% for those online classes will be issued to reflect that this is not our ideal service. This will be given to students in the form of a deduction from Term 2 fees in January based on the duration of closure and how many ‘face to face’ classes were replaced with online classes in Term 1.  This rebate will only be applied in the event of a long-term closure, and will not be applied if an individual teacher has to teach online while self-isolating.
  3. Online classes will be treated the same as appointments on our premises. Any exemption from participating in online classes must be agreed in advance.  If you wish to be exempt for reasons of age / access / technical reason, please contact us as soon as possible.
  4. We will inform students and parents by e-mail of any change in status relating to a COVID-19 closure.
  5. We ask that:
  • Students follow any safety measures put in place while in the school premises.
  • No student attends if they are symptomatic or unwell, following relevant HSE guidelines at the given time.  This is for everyone’s protection, and an online alternative may be offered if applicable.

Should we need to add to or amend the above, this will be communicated to students with as much notice as possible.
